Broncholitis & Double Ear Infections

Parker fell asleep in the car on the way home from Sturgis Sunday night, and he slept through the night. We were so glad to be home, and Wil and I were exhausted from staying up so late all weekend.  Parker’s eye was gunky Sunday, so we started using his pink eye drops. It really didn’t look like pink eye, but we wanted to be safe. He was out of sorts Monday at daycare, but he spent most of the day in the 1 year room. This was his first time in the big kid class. We just assumed he was fussy that night because of the change and since he didn’t take an afternoon nap.
By 3 am Tuesday morning, we’d already been up 3 times during the night with Parker. He had 102.2 temp, and things weren’t getting any better.  Wil took off work on Tuesday and took Parker to the doctor.  We learned that Parker refused his lunch on Monday and was fussy at daycare most of the day. Parker's chest was not clear, so they sent him home with breathing treatments. He had broncholitis and double ear infections.  Joy. Joy.  Parker slept most of the day on Tuesday and was pretty lethargic.  He woke up from a nap just as I was getting home from work and had 104.3 temp. We were so thankful that he went to the doctor earlier in the day.

I was home with Parker on Wednesday. He was definitely clingy, and it was obvious he wasn’t feeling well.  He was really restless, so I decided maybe he needed out of the house. We met Wil for lunch, and Parker was really good.  I was surprised that he didn’t take a nap.  By 2 in the afternoon, I was begging him to take a nap! He was miserable and WILD! The breathing treatment medicine must have wound him up.  By 4:30, I was begging Wil to come home and help me. Parker climbed me and just cried and cried. He wanted to be held but hate being held. He beat his toys on the table, he threw himself on the floor, and he was just completely miserable for HOURS! He refused to take a nap, and I truly think he was so confused by the way he felt.  Parker finally fell asleep at 7:30 after being awake for 11 hours!  We just knew Parker would sleep through the night. No such luck. He woke up at 11:15 with 104.0 temp, and we were up most of the night.
Luckily, Parker was able to spend the day with Mimi & Dan-dad on Thursday.  He had a follow-up doctor appointment that morning, and we got to see Dr. Ray.  She said his ears still had a lot of puss on them, and his chest was “bad, really bad.”  Since his breathing wasn’t labored and he’d only been on medicine for 2 days, she decided to give it one more day.  She had us make another appointment for Friday. Dr. Ray warned us that if Parker’s chest wasn’t a lot better on Friday, then she’d have to run some tests (blood work, chest x-rays, etc). Dread.
Parker went back to Mimi & Dan-dad’s on Friday, since he was still not feeling well.  I was hopeful that he was feeling some better. He had moments of sparkle in his eyes, but those moments were short-lived. He was so good when we say Dr. Ray. She was really pleased with his progress. Relief!  Parker was finally on the road to recovery.

Thanks Mimi & Dan-dad for stepping up and helping us this past week! We wouldn’t have survived without you!
It’s now Sunday, and Parker is finally getting back to his normal self. He’s still having random meltdowns, but overall he’s feeling so much better!
