It’s been a year since Wil and I visited Amanda & Dan
in Chicago. It’s been even longer since Parker has. We decided to head up there
for a long weekend Mar 22-24. We were anxious about the almost 6 hour drive, so
we invested in a portable dvd player. Parker did surprisingly well. He got a
little restless about the last 45 minutes, but we survived it without major
tears. When we first arrived in Chicago,
Amanda wasn’t home yet from work. We headed down the street to a play ground to
let Parker run off some energy. It was cold and windy, but that’s Chicago. On
Saturday, we went to the Shedd Aquarium. This was a first for Parker, and he
loved it!
The week before our trip, Parker started a new thing.
He’d say, “School bus. Parker’s school bus. Mommy’s school bus? There’s
Mommy’s! Where’s Daddy’s? Daddy’s bus?” and he goes on and on and on. At one
point, Wil turned to me and said he guessed we were in the doesn’t stop talking phase. It’s really sweet. Parker did this the
whole way to and from Chicago with school buses, trains, motorcycles, snow,
etc. He also loved assigning fish and other animals to us at the aquarium.
These are the sweet moments I never want to forget.
Unfortunately, we were up against snow and poor
travel conditions on Sunday. We ended up leaving Chicago at 8 am in order to
beat the snow. Our time with Amanda & Dan is always too short.
